At the end of each chapter in the book, I talk about how to modify things if you're an intermediate. You should follow those instructions (even if you don't feel like an intermediate!).  
If you know a translation for word immediately, then don't spend time re-learning it. Focus on new words, and once you move to sentences in your target language, then those sentences will naturally start incorporating old words without using translations, and you'll be able to wean yourself off of the translations in your head!
