ANKI not showing 28 new cards per day

Hi, I bought the French pronunciation trainer and have been using it for a week now. After reading other posts on this forum, I've discovered that I'm supposed to be shown 28 new cards per day (20 spelling rules plus 8 minimal pairs) but I'm only receiving 8 overall. I'm studying by clicking on the French Pronunciation top level deck, rather than each of the subdecks in turn. On checking the settings for each of the decks, the French Pronunciation deck is only set for 8 new cards per day. Is it overriding the settings for the subdecks? I've never changed these settings. I assume they are already set like that for the trainers. Have I misunderstood something here? Should I be studying the subdecks separately to get my 28 new cards per day, or is the French Pronunciation top level deck set incorrectly and it should be set to 28 new cards? Cheers

  • Hi,
I personally checked the French Pronunciation Trainer that is downloaded by our customers, which is version 2.02. I assume you also have v2.02 since you got it just around a week ago.

I tested both the regular version and the spelling test version on a new profile in my computer Anki. For both versions, the French Pronunciation top level deck is set at 28 New Cards/day. Therefore, the main Anki menu page looks like this:

    - French Pronunciation.......................28
    1. French Spelling Rules and Examples....20
    2. French Minimal Pairs...................8

Now if the settings for your French Pronunciation top level deck is set at only 8 New Cards/day, then for some strange reason your particular top level deck is set incorrectly.

I suggest you change it to 28 New Cards/day as it was originally intended.

If you would like me to give you a step-by-step guide of how to change it, let me know. But it seems that you may be okay doing it yourself.

    Kindly,

But then I saw this page and realized I probably shouldn't have set the trainer like that. So I attempted to reset defaults and now it's all screwed up. So I'd love to have the step by step.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Nancy,
If you haven't studied for so long with your French Pronunciation Trainer, a quick way to reset the trainer back to the correct cards/day is to simply reinstall the French Pronunciation Trainer deck.

Just go to the French Pronunciation.apkg file and doubleclick it. By doing so, the cards/day settings will reset back to the original.

That is probably the fastest and easiest way.

Nevertheless, if you would rather just change the cards/day settings within Anki, I can go ahead with the step-by-step for that. Let me know.

  • Hi thanks for your response. I don't mind resetting, but I've got everything sinked between my computer and my iphone - with the ios app. So if I reset, I'm not sure how to resync it all. Also, when you say to go to the file - are you saying I go to the file that I originally downloaded?

  • Hi Nancy,
Yes, when I say go to the file, I'm referring to the French Pronunciation Trainer file that you originally downloaded from the Fluent Forever website.

That's OK that you have everything synced between your computer, AnkiWeb and you iPhone. What you need to do is open the file on your computer. So, the file will be first opened, and then your cards will be reset on your computer's Anki. After you've reset the cards on your computer Anki, then close Anki on your computer. Usually, your computer automatically syncs the new reset info onto AnkiWeb. You should see a popup box before you close your computer Anki showing that it is syncing with AnkiWeb. After you do that, then open up your iPhone Anki, and click the synchronize button.

Then you should see that your iPhone Anki would have reset as well.

Let me know if you have any more questions, and I can help!

I have the French pronunciation trainer that I purchased plus I just finished my "everything else" with words from the 625 list. Should I not have followed these settings? If not, what is this page referencing? I probably should follow "ask first then change" but... :-)

Thanks so much for any guidance!

  • Hi Sharon,
No need to change the settings for the Pronunciation Trainer as Gabe and our team already made those settings optimal.

For the other decks such as your "Everything Else" deck where you put the cards for the 625 words, then that is fine to have changed the settings to match the article's recommendations. The article was referring to those cards and other cards you make in future (not the Pronunciation Trainer cards)

  • Hi, Matthew-

Thanks so much for the reply. Since I did change the pronunciation trainers, it sounds like the easiest thing to do is reinstall them, so they are back to their original settings.

    Thanks again,
