Use of gender mnemonic with multiple languages

If one's goal is ultimately to learn multiple languages, should one try to think of a different gender mnemonic for each language?

Say I co-opt the exploding/burning example for use with French. If I then want to learn German, and stick with exploding/burning/shattering for its genders, is that going to mess me up when a word's gender differs between the two languages? Or does it work in practice to remember that le chat explodes, but die Katze burns?
