If you’ve ordered the Fluent Forever Pronunciation Trainer, and you want a walkthrough of where to begin so you can get it working on your Android phone, then this step by step guide is for you.
1) Download the Pronunciation Trainer zip file onto your computer
The easiest and best way to get the Pronunciation Trainer to work on your Android phone is to first download the zip files onto a computer. You can find the download link for the Pronunciation Trainer zip file in the order receipt that we sent you via email. The subject title of the email should be something like this: "Your Fluent Forever order receipt".
The name of the Pronunciation Trainer zip file should be something like this: "Mandarin-Trainer-Fluent-Forever.zip". The title of your zip file will, of course, depend on the language you are studying.
2) Extract the files from the Fluent Forever Pronunciation Trainer zip file
Extract all the files onto your computer. After the extraction, you should have a folder called "Mandarin-Trainer-Fluent-Forever" on your computer. Of course, the title of this folder will depend on the language you are studying.
3) Follow the instructions in the Read Me file to install Anki and the Pronunciation Trainer onto your computer
Inside the folder you recently extracted, you will find a file called "1. Read Me First (Seriously!).htm". Open that file on your computer. Then, read and follow the instructions given in that file.
After you have completed the instructions in the Read Me file, you should have Anki installed on your computer (if you didn’t have it installed already). You should have the Pronunciation Trainer installed on your computer, too.
4) Create a free AnkiWeb account (if you don’t have one already), then sync the Anki account on your computer with AnkiWeb
Once you have installed Anki and the Pronunciation Trainer deck into Anki on your computer, then you need to sync your computer’s Anki account with your AnkiWeb account. This syncing step is important so that you can access the Pronunciation Trainer later via AnkiWeb on your Android phone.
In order to sync your files onto AnkiWeb, click on the sync button in Anki.
After you click the sync button, you may be asked for your login details for your AnkiWeb account. If you already have an AnkiWeb account, then type in your AnkiWeb ID and password. If you do not have an AnkiWeb account, then you can click on the blue “sign up” link in the “Account Required” popup so that you can quickly create a free AnkiWeb account.
After logging into your AnkiWeb account, click on the sync button again to ensure that the Pronunciation Trainer on your computer has been synced to your AnkiWeb account. During the sync, you should see a popup window similar to the one below.
5) Install the free app AnkiDroid Flashcards on your Android phone
Next, search for and install the free “AnkiDroid Flashcards” app in the Google Play app store on your Android phone. You can also find AnkiDroid Flashcards app using this link here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ichi2.anki&hl=en
6) Open the AnkiDroid app and sync your AnkiDroid app with AnkiWeb
Open the AnkiDroid app on your Android phone. Then tap on the sync button, which can be found on the top right corner of AnkiDroid.
If this is your first time to install and use AnkiDroid, then you will be asked for your AnkiWeb ID and password. Use the same AnkiWeb account that you used on your computer, as this account will have the Pronunciation Trainer stored within it. Once you have logged into your AnkiWeb account from AnkiDroid, the synchronization should continue.
After the sync, you should then be able to see the Fluent Forever Pronunciation Trainer in your AnkiDroid app. Tap on the name of the Fluent Forever Pronunciation Trainer in AnkiDroid to start studying your flashcards.
Note: As of September 12th 2019, we no longer provide official support for our Anki based pronunciation trainers and word lists. You are more than welcome to still purchase and use them, but the support we are able to offer for these products is limited. For supported languages, these materials are already built into the Fluent Forever app.
