Where can I download the free Model Deck for use in Anki?

Summary: You'll find the link below.

If you’ve read the Fluent Forever book or explored our resources online, you’ll know we provide a free Model Deck to help you get started with Anki.

The Model Deck contains pre-made card templates and examples that follow the method described in the book, making it easier for you to start creating your own personalised flashcards right away.

This resource is completely free to download and is designed to save you time while giving you a clear example of how to structure cards for maximum memory retention.

You can find the download link here:

You'll also find it as a download at the bottom of this article.

Once you’ve downloaded it, simply import the file into Anki and start customising the cards with your own words, pictures, and audio.

If you’d prefer to skip the technical setup entirely, the Fluent Forever app makes this process much simpler.

It lets you create flashcards directly in the app and automatically organises them into a spaced repetition system (SRS), so you can jump straight into learning without dealing with templates or imports.

Here's a breakdown of how they differ:

Anki Model Deck vs. Fluent Forever App

Feature Anki Model Deck (Free) Fluent Forever App
Cost Free Subscription-based
Setup Manual import of model deck into Anki No setup – ready to use
Customisation Full control over card design, fields, and templates Cards follow Fluent Forever method automatically (images/audio etc)
Technical Knowledge Needed High – requires learning Anki’s interface and settings None – designed for instant use
Spaced Repetition Managed by Anki Built-in, automatically scheduled, no need to think about it
Media Search online to copy and paste your own images/audio manually. Time-consuming process (one of the main reasons Gabe, our CEO, developed the app!) Add images, photos, drawings and gifs, translations, audio and more directly in the app, minimal time needed to add to cards
Best For Learners who enjoy tinkering and customising, time-consuming, can be overwhelming and even frustrating to those who just want to dive in to learning Learners who want a ready-to-go experience
